STATEMENT
When creating art, I find it very difficult to let myself go. I rarely find myself being able to do anything that serves no purpose. When creating a piece I always ask myself, 'What does it mean?'
2016 was the first time I used oil paints, and I have never looked back. I have never forgotten Willem De Kooning's words referring to oil paint: 'Flesh was the reason why oil painting was invented' ever since I began. I worked only with acrylic, but oil opened up a new world for me.
I would consider myself an activist and I believe my work reflects this. Women's rights, racism and LGBT+ issues have all been involved in my work and my process at one time or another.
2019 is when I truly found myself and my artistic voice. For months I had been gaslighted by a close 'friend' into doubting myself and the colour of my skin. Remaining silent in situations I usually wouldn't, but instead of letting this get me down I decided to paint and create. I believe their is nothing better than putting your emotions into your artwork and just letting yourself see what happens.
